The Hobbit, or There and Back Again
Fuck this stupid book, I really didn’t like it. It’s so fucking linear, the world building is trash, like all of it is in the start instead of sprinkleing it in to immerse the reader. I cannot stress this enough… WHY THE HELL DOSE HE ALLWAYS SPEND LIKR 15 PAGES DESCRIBING THE MOST SMALLEST THIBG LIKE COME ON. I love when people use words writing because I think that it really reflects the beauty and power that the English language that can convey, and things like Frankenstein or wuthering heights do this amazing… HOWEVER, I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU PUT JRR TOLKIEN’S WRITING IN MY FACE I WOULD SPEND A YEAR AND A HALF WITH AN AUDIO BOOK AND ID STILL HAE QUESTIONS. GOD. Oh but I’ll give it one star cuz the story was ok ish and that’s where we get like lots of stuff like d&d and other stuff so I’ll give it that but other than that I really don’t like this book. ill just say though, it takes alot to make me hate a book and somehow this book did it so...
The Metamorphosis
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK, however I just wished that the didn’t end so quickly, although I guess that helps hilight the absolute idgaf-ery that the family shows towards the main character
Frankenstein
I physically cannot explain how much I loved every part of this book, from the writing to the story telling. the complete pain and agony that the creature experienced and the realism to it all was so heartbreaking it lietarlly made me cry (although thats not really hard since im a pretty emotional guy). another thing that i really like and i enjoy it when media dose this is when your allowed to hate the main charecter, like idk if its just me but when the writer holds the main charecter on a pedistal and makes then so that they cant do any harm it kinda aggitates me so i like this when its shown in victor. Mary Shelly was so advanced for her time and I’m so glad that she was considered the first science fiction writer instead of some random shmuck
Beastars vol.1
I have allready watched all of the anime and decided that I wanted to read the manga and so, as a BIG BEASTARS FAN, I loved the art style of the manga along with the way that they set up the world and how they introduced the dynamic between predator and prey with tem being murdered and that iconic line “all you carnivores are all the same! Your all monsters!” (Atleast that’s what I think it is) is just so powerful and cool. Also I like how in the manga, legoshi isn’t as quickly introduced as “wow he’s so great but he just seems creepy” cuz he is introduced DIRECTLY after that devouring scene so it makes him seem more off putting and the way that they draw him all in the shadows and such I just like how they draw it out more, yknow?
Beastars vol.2
**spoiler alert** This volume was genuinely so stressful like I was in the edge of my seat and cleanching my teeth as I was reading the last few chapters. In the show while I was watching it I didn’t really feel as much as how insane and intense the last few chapters felt. When bill started scrapping up legoshi’s back and said “now you have stripes aswell” or something like that OH MY GODDDD THAT WAS SO POWERFUL like I cannot explain how impactful that scene felt as I was reading it like I was CLEANXHIBG MY TEETH AND I DONT DO THAT MUCH WHILE KM READING. Ok moving on the infamous garden shed scene was just as akward as the show but that’s ok because I think it helps build apon haru’s later accions in the book. actually imma circle back to the fight scene because the way that they built the tension between legoshi and bill and how he continued to say “we are one in the same because we are carnivores” and legoshi’s internal struggle with the fact that he almost ate haru really gives depth to bothe of them because although bills almost nonchalant admitting to doing something as taboo as drinking rabbit blood just to get some pep in his step and legoshi although trying to be the richious one has that still on his conscious is just AAAAAH CHEF’S KISS. Anyway that’s my thoughts I’m so ready to read the next volume! I probably just rambled for this while review and didn’t make sense but it’s whatever
Beastars vol.3
**spoiler alert** ok first of all I don’t think I said this in my other reviews but I don’t think enough flowers are given to the little comics at the end of each of the volumes, I think knowing those little tid bits from the characters really help a me understand them better and the reasons why they are like this, like every aspect of their character design was thought out. Also along with that thought I really liked the silly lil comics and other lil stuff at the back because it’s helps with world building plus just its so fun to read it all after such heavy themes being portrayed in there. SPEAKING OF HEAVY THEMES IN THE BOOK BOY DO I GOT STUFF TO SAY. First off, fuck that dumbass red panda in the production crew because why he so rude to legoshi for no freaking reason. Also I guess I should adress the elephant in the room, what the FUCK was bill on about this whole volume, istg he needs to make up his mind. Cuz he acts all friendly with legoshi and everyone else and for some reason just calls legoshi out for being a virgin for no reason??? And then like a chapter later they’re at their throats because he just can’t resist eating that old guy’s finger?? Wtfff. Also love gohuin and i actually prefer book gohin over show just because i think its way funnier that he literally didn’t listen to legoshi AT ALL in the book and just labeled he as “dangerous”. Also with that I noticed that legoshi’s scary aura that he had at the start of the series is starting to fade. You can see that in the drawings he looks less scary and more welcoming especially after that that interaction with Haru with the shoe buckle. Anyway I loved this one and that’s it
Beastars vol.4
*spoiler alert** At the start I didn’t really like it because a lot of it felt random, for example haru getting freaky with Louis and stuff however I do understand that this is for the sake of building that conflict with Louis and legoshi and also explaining her character more but idk just a lil weird it made sense later, also bill just going up to Louis and saying “hey btw I know abt your past” and then Louis just like whipping out a gun and pinning him down was a lil random, however I really like how in the second half it comes back together and she explains all of this. Also I’m lowkey scared for the shi shi gumi scene with Louis but fingers crossed it’s good 🫣
Beastars Vol.5
This book had been my favorite book so far, genuinely made me feel so many emotions and I related with so many things on a deep spiritual level like AAAAAHHH. The first thing I’d like to talk about is this one part where legoshi is going up to where the shi-shi gumi boss is with haru and he’s says in a flash-back type thing while he’s talking to jack: “(legoshi)what if I’m only doing this for me…? What if it’s not what the other beast wants or needs? (Jack)The other… beast? (Legoshi) A beast like me can never close the distance between myself and weaker beasts, no matter how hard I try. Never ever… even if I do my absolute best… (Jack)are you still upset about that rabbit girl? (Legoshi) she told me “we as prey animals are always in danger. We could die at any moment you have no idea what that feels like.” And she’s right. i am a carnivore. Or course we can’t understand each other. will our relationship end without the two of us ever coming to a understanding of eachother…? Why was I born a wolf? For what reason? (Jack) I think everyone’s searching for the answer to that question. Not just kids, but grown ups too. But both carnivores and herbivores struggle with their identity. Everyone’s classified as a member of a species the moment they’re born so they’re all trying to figure out who they are inside.” Then Legoshi starts going on about how all his hurtful things that carnivores have to fight have been used rather to hurt others but to protect haru… bla bla bla. However that whole section of quote literally made me cry, because as someone who is part of the queer community, one of the most known and marginalized ones out there (gay) I have felt the full extent of being ostracized and scrutinized just for living my truth. This book and I think the whole series really encapsulates that whole experience. Also just having such a complicated love life and just hard time interacting with other, I deeply connect with legoshi in the sence that he represents that struggle I have. Since a lot of what straight couples experience is pretty linear and shown throughout countless parts of meidia, I think it’s probably easier to understand love than it is queer love and haru and legoshi’s relationship kind of in my eyes represent how it feels like to have a queer relationship. Of course none of them work out as picture perfect as theyres dose however it represents it quite well and seeing legoshi, with this struggle rise above it and succseed fills me with hope that someday, I will find one one who I really like and is kinda and careing like haru and legoshi and is willing to live and surpass that hardships of being in this type of love. Sorry if that was a bit much I just had to put that out there 😅😅 anyway I was giggling and kicking my feet when they were together and happy eating those noodle and I can’t wait to order some more of them bookkkkkkkejnndmbxnnd.
